劍橋大學出版社所出版的 A Vision for Universal Preschool Education 贏得了2008年的葛洛麥爾獎（Grawemeyer Award 註1）。此獎項的得獎人可以獲得二十萬美元的獎金。

2007年12月5日，路易斯維爾大學宣布 A Vision for Universal Preschool Education 贏得了2008年的葛洛麥爾獎。二十萬美元的獎金將由耶魯大學的 Edward Zigler 教授和 Walter S. Gilliam 教授以及富爾敦大學的 Stephanie M. Jones 教授均分。

 Zigler 教授是聯邦政府啟蒙計劃的創始人，該計畫是要讓學校能做好充分的準備，透過教育、健康、營養、交際和其他服務增進美國公立幼稚園到公立高中內弱勢學童的社會和認知發展。

作者們藉由近乎四十年的研究表示公立學齡前教育能大幅增進美國兒童的認知和社會智能。他們也表明學齡前教育的課程能有效降低輟學率和輔導服務的需求，同時能增進學童課業上的表現以及未來的成就。然而公立學齡前教育在美國並非合法，而目前也尚無打算制定相關政策。

註1 路易斯維爾大學葛洛麥爾獎在1984年由 H. Charles Grawemeyer 創立，此獎分成五個項目，分別是教育（Education）、改善社會秩序（Improve World Order）、音樂創作（Music Composition）、心理學（Psychology）以及宗教（Religion）。

Press Book Wins the 2008 Grawemeyer Award in Education

'A Vision for Universal Preschool Education' won the 2008 Grawemeyer Award in Education. The award is worth $200,000 to its authors.

On December 5, 2007 it was announced at the University of Louisville that 'A Vision for Universal Preschool Education' won the prestigious 2008 Grawemeyer Award in Education. The prize of $200,000 will be shared by authors Edward Zigler (Yale University), Walter S. Gilliam (Yale University), and Stephanie M. Jones (Fordham University).

Zigler was the founder of the federal Head Start Program, which "promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services" to disadvantaged children in American public schools from kindergarten through the 12th grade.

Based on nearly four decades of research, the authors argue that public universal preschool education would greatly improve the cognitive and socio-emotional skills of American children. The availability of preschool programs, the authors argue, have been linked to reduced drop-out rates and the cost-savings associated with a diminished need for remedial services, as well as improved academic performance and future life success. Public universal preschool education is unavailable in the United States and there is no current consideration of enacting such as policy.
